Elizabeth Taylor was laid to rest this afternoon at a small private funeral service attended by family and close friends in The Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn-Glendale. The service was scheduled to begin at 2 PM but at Miss Taylor’s request started late. Miss Taylor had left instructions that it was to begin at least 15 minutes later than publicly scheduled, with the announcement, ‘She even wanted to be late for her own funeral,'” a statement from the late actress’ rep to Access Hollywood read.

Rabbi Jerry Cutler officiated the service and Colin Farrell, described by the rep as a “close friend” of the actress, recited Gerard Manley Hopkins’ poem “The Leaden Echo and the Golden Echo.”

She was interred at the Great Mausoleum, “sheltered beneath a soaring marble Michelangelo angel,” the statement concluded.

Forest Lawn in Glendale is also where Elizabeth’s longtime close friend, Michael Jackson, is entombed. It was not immediately clear if Elizabeth chose to be buried near her friend or if it was merely a coincidence.

The Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn in Glendale is also where Michael was laid to rest in 2009.Clark Gable and Jean Harlow are also interred in the majestic burial site, according to Radar Online.

Five limousines carrying family members arrived shortly before the service, which lasted about an hour. White flowers were also spotted being delivered to the mortuary.

Prior to the service, Tom Lorez, a spokesperson for Glendale Police Department, told reporters that authorities expected a “peaceful event.” He added that approximately “three dozen” guests would be attending the service.

Following the screen legend’s death on Thursday, the Taylor family asked fans, in lieu of flowers, to contribute towards the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

The actress died peacefully at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in LA on Wednesday surrounded by her children, Michael Wilding, Christopher Wilding, Liza Todd, and Maria Burton. She had been hospitalized six weeks ago with congestive heart failure, a condition with which she had struggled for some years.

Low, low prices: Target beats Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart’s slogan may be “Save Money. Live Better,” but rival Target is challenging it by offering even lower prices on everyday products.

Two recent price comparisons of grocery andhousehold goods revealed that Target’s prices are lower than at No. 1 retailer Wal-Mart.

Craig Johnson, president of retail consulting firm Customer Growth Partners, compared 35 brand-name items sold at Wal-Mart and Target stores in New York, Indiana and North Carolina. They consisted of 22 common grocery goods such as milk, cereal and rice; 10 general merchandise products such as clothing and home furnishings; and three health and beauty items.

Target’s shopping cart rang in at $269.13 (pre-tax), a hair lower than the $271.07 charged at Wal-Mart.

“For the first time in four years, our price comparisons between the two has shown that Target has a slight edge over Wal-Mart,” said Johnson. A smaller study by Kantar Retail found similar results.

Wal-Mart typically maintains a 2% to 4% price advantage over Target. But in January, Johnson noticed that some products were cheaper at Target.

That has continued into February, he said.

If you factor in additional discounts offered to Target’s Redcard customers, the savings gap widens more considerably between the two discounters.

Said Johnson, “When you add the Redcard’s 5% discount, the price gap widens to 5.7%.”

Not all Target customers are Redcard holders. Target declined to say how many customers are members. However, 7.4% of Target’s total sales in the fourth quarter were Redcard transactions, said Target spokeswoman Molly Koenst.

Wal-Mart does not offer a similar program.

“This is a real win for consumers given the huge increase in gas prices lately,” said Johnson. “Consumers have little control over gas prices but they do have control over what they buy and where they shop.”

Targeting Wal-Mart: Target’s undercutting of Wal-Mart’s prices didn’t happen overnight, said Johnson.

“Target stepped up its game during the recession,” he said. “The company caught up with Wal-Mart on making its supply chain more efficient so it could bring down prices on items people frequently buy.”

Groceries are big traffic generators, and Wal-Mart still dominates Target there. About half the items that Wal-Mart sells are groceries.

Johnson estimates that 15% to 20% of Target’s merchandise are groceries. Koenst declined to confirm those numbers but said 16% of Target’s sales in 2009 were food and pet supplypurchases.

Chewing over the numbers: Kantar surveys just one Wal-Mart and one Target store in Massachusetts and found Target’s prices in January were about 2.8% lower than Wal-Mart’s.

Among the goods that Kantar compared, cheaper health and beauty items, and particularlysmoking cessation gum, helped Target beat Wal-Mart.

But in groceries and household goods such as light bulbstrash bags and detergent, Kantar found Wal-Mart still boasted better prices than its rival.

Wal-Mart spokesman David Tovar said, “We are absolutely committed to offering our customers low prices every day. If customers find a lower advertised price, we’ll match it every time.”

“I think Target can maintain its edge in the near term,” said Johnson at Customer Growth. “But remember, Target isn’t beating Wal-Mart on all items but it is on those that really matter to consumers.”

Kirstie Alley’s Dancing with the Stars fan club includes a man who knows a thing or two about dancing – Grease and Saturday Night Fever star John Travolta.

“He’s really excited,” Alley told PEOPLE Monday of her pal. “I think he will come to the show and watch at some point. I hope. I’ll beg.”

The actress, who wowed the judges with an impressive cha cha Monday night, said Travolta offered her some pointers.

“His main thing was just have fun,” Alley said.

That’s good advice but rehearsing for a pressure-filled performance isn’t always a joy.

“We always fight,” Alley said of the times she’s danced in movies with Travolta, adding that it’s a similar circumstance with her DWTS pro partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. “But he’s a great guy … John just dances naturally … John just makes it look easy.”

George Lopez Compares Kirstie Alley to a Pig

Kirstie Alley got one of the highest scores of the night on Monday’s “Dancing with the Stars,” but that didn’t keep George Lopez from cracking jokes about her size.

“She did a nice job,” the late night host admitted on his show “Lopez Tonight.” “Her little hooves tapping away.”

Kirstie, 60, has already lost 20 pounds and has said publicly that she signed on to do “DWTS” to shed some more. “I want to lose about 60 more pounds,” the actress told “Good Morning America.” “I love the challenge, I love the pressure. It feels like the same competitive spirit as being an athlete.”

Lopez said of the actress, “Before the show, she went to the market. Then she had roast beef, and this is her going all the way home.” The late night host then cut to a video of a pig squealing, from a recent GEICO commercial.

Whoopi Goldberg wasn’t just high on excitement the night that she won an Oscar in 1991.

In an old video of The View co-host, which surfaced in the Internet Thursday, she admitted she was stoned while accepting the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Ghost.

“Smoking cigarettes and pot every now and then are my habits. And I thought, ‘I’ve got to relax.’ So I smoked this wonderful joint that was the last of my home grown,” Goldberg explains in the video posted by TMZ.

In the clip, dated August 9, 1992 and reportedly filmed during a voice-over session for The Pagemaster, Goldberg revealed she was so shocked by her win that she was worried about making it up to the stage.

“When he [presenter Denzel Washington] said my name and I popped up, I thought, ‘Oh f—…okay, up the stairs … around to the podium … there’s millions of people, pick up the statue, get the statue,” she said.

While the actress was poised in her acceptance speech, she says her mother could tell her daughter was stoned because of her “glistening eyes” and later called to scold her.

“I know you’re not supposed to admit that you smoke pot, but I don’t drink alcohol,” Goldberg says on the tape. “Just because I do it doesn’t mean you should.”

Calls to Goldberg’s rep were not immediately returned.
