Entertainment’s Highest-Earning Women

Britney Spears was once banished from Hollywood’s ranks. A train wreck more apt to get attention for a head shaving than a chart-topping song, the 20-something songstress was written off as a textbook flame-out.

But by all accounts, the pipes behind “…Baby One More Time” is back. Proof: she raked in an estimated $64 million for the year ending in June, making her the third-highest-paid woman in Hollywood. For Spears, the 12 months included the fifth-highest-grossing tour of the year, which grossed more than $130 million, according to concert trade publication Pollstar. She took in still more from tour merchandise, a greatest hits album, a collection of Elizabeth Arden fragrances, and a lucrative endorsement deal with Candie’s. For those keeping track, that puts her above Lady GagaTaylor Swift, and one-time top earner Celine Dion. Spears only ranked number 7 last year, with estimated earnings of $35 million.

It’s an impressive haul, until you compare her paycheck to those of her male counterparts. Fair or not, the entertainment industry’s highest-earning men collectively raked in an estimated $1.2 billion between June 1, 2009, and June 1, 2010, compared to the $835 million the women pulled down during the same period. In fact, after Oprah Winfrey, who at $315 million out-earned everyone — male or female — Hollywood’s second-best-paid woman, Beyonce Knowles, would place ninth on the men’s list. And the remaining top-earning females wouldn’t have placed at all.

Blame the industry’s lack of high-ranking female film directors, a category that dominated the men’s list. Having built billion-dollar empires on the backs of massive franchises like “Star Wars,” “Transformers” and “Avatar,” top-earners like George Lucas, Michael Bay, and James Cameron respectively banked $95 million, $120 million, and $210 million.

But the profession, particularly at the upper echelon, tends to be light on women, which explains the hoopla surrounding the Oscar win by Kathryn Bigelow (who was once married to Cameron) earlier this year. Too bad critical acclaim didn’t translate to commercial success — her flick “The Hurt Locker” made peanuts compared with “Avatar’s” $2.8 billion haul. Needless to say, she didn’t make the cut for our rundown of top-earning women.

Hollywood’s 10 Most Overpaid Actors 2010

In fact, the only woman on our list with a true film career is No. 6, Sandra Bullock. With two hit movies (“The Proposal” and “The Blind Side”) and an Oscar win this year, Bullock raked in $56 million thanks to her on-screen work, as well as her off-screen role as a producer.

To determine how much the women on our list earned we talked to agents, managers, producers, and lawyers. Though some of these leading ladies come from the worlds of film, television, and talk shows, musicians dominate our ranking. Global appeal is what sets apart women like Lady Gaga (No. 4), Madonna (No. 5), and Taylor Swift (No. 9). Unlike stars of stateside TV shows, the popularity of which rarely extends far beyond U.S. borders, these musicians are making the bulk of their income touring around the world.

Consider Beyonce, who pulled down an estimated $87 million in the last year. Though her collection of endorsement deals, fashion line, and debut fragrance helped pad her pocketbook, it was her 32-country, six-continent “I Am…” tour that took her around the globe and earned her many millions along the way.

Lady Gaga, too, has a global tour to thank for much of her $62 million income this past year. The songstress, who premiered on this year’s Celebrity 100 and ranks No. 4 on this list, remained on the road with a 106-date tour that grossed $95 million. Like her top-earning peers, she also booked a slew of marketing and endorsement deals, with companies like Polaroid, Virgin Mobile, and MAC’s Viva Glam, and cashed in on album sales and music video tie-ins. She’s often recognized for maintaining and feeding that international fan base through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, where she touts more fans than any other star.

And then there’s Madonna, who rounds out the top five with an estimated $58 million. At 52 she is not yet ready to concede her spot in pop music’s hierarchy to the genre’s younger set. In addition to publishing royalties and a handful of fashion-related endorsement deals, the original “Material Girl” generated the fourth-highest-grossing tour of 2009, bringing in $6 million a night and $138 million overall. Up next, she’s launching a series of gyms, appropriately dubbed Hard Candy after her 2008 album, around the world.

Did Pink Pregnancy News Get Leaked on Twitter?

First came the paparazzi photos showing pop star Pink with what Internet reports said could be an emerging baby bump.

Now there’s a congratulatory Tweet from a TV personality claiming to have inside information.

“Hey, Pink, I’m sooooo happy for you lady!!! Congrats on baby!!” writes Good Day L.A. co-host Jillian Barberie Reynolds on herTwitter page. “Ps. You know your man whispered it to us at dinner. See I CAN keep a secret!!”

So is it true?

So far, there’s no word on whether Pink, 31, is expecting her first child with husband Carey Hart. Reps have not responded to requests for comment and Pink’s own Twitter page has been silent on the matter.

This isn’t the first time she’s faced pregnancy rumors. Last spring she shot down speculation, joking that she was carrying “a 600-lb. baby.”

Jack

Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after attending his company’s
Christmas Party. Jack is not normally a drinker, but the drinks didn’t
taste like alcohol at all. He didn’t even remember how he got home from
the
party.

As bad as he was feeling, he wondered if he did something wrong. Jack
had
to force himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a
couple of
aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table. And, next to them,
a
single red rose!

Jack sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and
pressed. He

looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly
clean.

So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins, cringes when he sees
a
huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror.

Then he notices a note hanging on the corner of the mirror written in
red
with
little hearts on it and a kiss mark from his wife in lipstick!: “Honey,
breakfast
is on the stove, I left early to go get groceries to make you your
favorite
dinner tonight. I love you, darling!”

He stumbles to the kitchen and sure enough, there is hot breakfast,
steaming
hot coffee and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table
eating.
Jack asks, “Son… what happened last night?”

“Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and out of your mind. You
fell over the coffee table and broke it, and then you puked in the
hallway,
and got that black eye when you ran into the door.”

Confused he asked his son, “So, why is everything in such perfect order,
so clean, I have a rose, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me?”

His son replies, “Oh THAT!… Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and
when she tried to take your pants off, you screamed, “Leave me alone,
lady, I’m married!”

Broken Coffee Table $239.99

Hot Breakfast $4.20

two Aspirins $.38
